What is BilBasen?

Our story begins in 1989, when a clever man working out of a basement created a magazine that contained nothing but classified ads for vehicles. As price-conscious Danes, we loved the concept, and Bil Markedet became a household word.

In 1998, Bil Markedet partnered with dba.dk — Denmark’s biggest classifieds site — and went online as BilBasen. With innovative software that let dealers upload their ads to the Internet, BilBasen became a huge success, and in 2008 it became part of eBay.

Bilinfo provides 98 percent of Danish car dealers, in addition to insurance and financial companies, with IT programs and support to use with BilBasen.com. In addition, BilBasen also acquired a Mascus license in 2007 for the Danish market in order to operate its marketplace. Mascus is the largest marketplace in Europe for buying and selling used machinery and equipment, including tractors, trailers and trucks.

Today, we’re the number one car site in Denmark. We offer everything a vehicle buyer or seller needs — including video ads and a buyers’ forum — in an easy-to-use format that you can access even from a cell phone.

Working with Bilbasen as a whole is a great project to me.

What has been the biggest surprise about working at BilBasen?
How much growth the company has experienced and how much focus there is on economy.

What has been the most amazing experience you've had at BilBasen thus far?
I got to know my band members here at work. We have played at a dba.dk party, which was a success. I am also very fond of being part of bigger projects.

What is your favorite benefit about working at BilBasen?
The benefits and the health insurance.

Why did you decide to work at BilBasen?
I liked the job description, as it included all the tasks and opportunities that I was seeking in a career.

Why do you like working at BilBasen?
The term "freedom with responsibility" really means something here and is implemented in our way of doing things. And of course, my great colleagues.

What are your goals at BilBasen - what are you working to achieve?
I would like to achieve a more wide knowledge of the different products within the company. I am very happy where I am at the moment but I am always searching for a greater knowledge and to continue a positive development.

What cool projects have you worked on at BilBasen?
My darling of the company is the magazine Bil Markedet. I have the responsibility for the graphics and layouts and it’s very challenging being up against the online version, BilBasen.

What has been the biggest surprise about working at BilBasen?
How fast the company has expanded and doing so without losing the company identity.

What has been the most amazing experience you've had at BilBasen thus far?
The day I got offered the job as production manager after only one and a years of employment.

What is your favorite benefit about working at BilBasen?
A great flexibility in every day life and the work assignments give me personal freedom.

Why did you decide to work at BilBasen?
I applied for a job as graphic designer. I liked the environment and there was a really nice chemistry during the interview.

Why do you like working at BilBasen?
There are nice challenges and a very "floating" organization. It makes the flow of communication and decision-making very fast.

What are your goals at BilBasen - what are you working to achieve?
I want to be a good account manager. I want to move forward all the time and I also have some ambitions I want fulfilled in the future.

What cool projects have you worked on at BilBasen?
We tried optimizing the revenue on private ads by implementing a package solution some time ago. Also implementing Google ads is a cool project.

What has been the biggest surprise about working at BilBasen?
Nothing ☺

What has been the most amazing experience you've had at BilBasen thus far?
When I chose to go from development to online sales. It provided me with some amazing new colleagues and work assignments.

What is your favorite benefit about working at BilBasen?
The Racing Corner. Benefits and a good balance between work and private life.

Why did you decide to work at BilBasen?
I found a nice girl in Aarhus and got in contact with Kenneth Andersen (CEO). I was hired as a customer service employee but moved on to development and am now in sales.

Why do you like working at BilBasen?
I have great colleagues, nice office surroundings, a lot of flexibility and nice opportunities to develop professionally.

I would like to achieve a manager position one day but the work/life balance is also very important to me.

When we got the auctions running!

The company is run with trust and a lot of personal responsibility to each employee. It’s a big company with a lot of success based on simple principles.

What has been the most amazing experience you've had at BilBasen thus far?
When the auctions started to make a profit.

What is your favorite benefit about working at BilBasen?
A large portion of flexibility and a great environment. I also feel that you get a lot of recognition for what you do.

Why did you decide to work at BilBasen?
I applied for the job due to the fact that it combined my three core interests – cars, Internet and sales. Furthermore it seemed like a young and dynamic company.

Why do you like working at BilBasen?
There is a young and good-hearted environment with a short decision-making process. Furthermore, it’s a company with success and you have the freedom and space to be you!

What are your goals at BilBasen - what are you working to achieve?
I would like to create growth and apply my own successes to others.

What cool projects have you worked on at BilBasen?
At the moment it’s getting the economy crisis turned into something positive. I have developed a new concept with more integrated ads and it’s been a cool experience to develop something from scratch and see an end product.

What has been the biggest surprise about working at BilBasen?
That there is so much trust and frankness in the company – as Jacob Aqraou would put it: We tell it like it is.

What has been the most amazing experience you've had at BilBasen thus far?
Definitely when I won the InterRail award!! It came as a big surprise and I was so flattered that I became speechless.

What is your favorite benefit about working at BilBasen?
That has to be the improved pension. Also, the health insurance and improved maternity leave are worth mentioning.

Why did you decide to work at BilBasen?
I was actually in the middle of my education as a social worker, when I found out that it was not what I wanted. My neighbor at that time was employed at Bilbasen and he encouraged me to apply here. So I did, and got the job.

Why do you like working at BilBasen?
There’s a lot of trust. You are allowed to develop at your own pace and you get rewarded for taking initiative and creating results. It’s a flat organization run with a lot of humor and focus on work/life balance.

What are your goals at BilBasen - what are you working to achieve?
To REALLY understand want our different customer groups want and deliver the highest value to them. Also to enjoy working here and have fun.

What cool projects have you worked on at BilBasen?
Launching a new mobile app, re-launching and cleaning up several areas of the site incl homepage, introduce new ways of searching and setting up a new business model for private users.

What has been the biggest surprise about working at BilBasen?
The openness and friendliness of the people and how warmly they welcomed me coming over from Germany.

The ability to make decisions and how fast they can be implemented.

What is your favorite benefit about working at BilBasen?
The possibility to make a true change in the business and the opportunity to experiment.

I wanted to work outside of Germany – and the job opportunity at BilBasen perfectly fit into my background.

What are your goals at BilBasen - what are you working to achieve?
I am trying to create a sustainable pace in the PD department by implementing certain lean practices and trying to reach support and understanding from the business side for these things. The value of that is predictable and sustainable service delivery.

What cool projects have you worked on at BilBasen?
Mostly I have been dealing with the Internationalization of the platform and the creation of new marketplaces for Rumania, Poland, France and Italy. Now I concentrate on some fresh new processes for SW development and steering of the PD part of technology.

What has been the biggest surprise about working at BilBasen?
Coming in, not knowing anything, I was astonished how much revenue makes with such few people (and I still am).

What has been the most amazing experience you've had at BilBasen thus far?
All the international projects.

What is your favorite benefit about working at BilBasen?
The informal but productive culture.

Why did you decide to work at BilBasen?
Just after moving to Potsdam, all of a sudden I received an email from mobile.de if I could join. The small distance between my new hometown Potsdam and Dreilinden seemed as fate to me ;) The talks with mobile.de went into the right direction and gave me a good feeling. Quite spontaneously I decided for the move.

Why do you like working at BilBasen?
I like the efficiency that lies in the relatively informal work mode. I am working on a relatively long leash ;) and have quite some freedom to try things out.
